Well it has been a while since I last came here - 89282 new messages posted since I last logged on. Anyways I just though I would do a little posting tonight. I recently sold my 180sx and bought another 300ZX. It is a 1989 2+2 TT with only 45k miles on it. Aside from an old Central ecu, and an ancient Kakimoto exhaust which is quite similar to stock, she is bone stock down to the air intakes. She looks bad but runs like brand new. The seller was asking 180,000yen but I talked him down to 120,000yen - or roughly $1050 :-) Of course the car needed an inspection and insurance which ran another $750. All in all not a bad deal considering that I sold the 180sx for $2000. : : : : For anyone who is old enough to remember my project, my intake mani is done - :
......and I received my engine and it is now sitting at my local speed shop. We are debating whether to assemble it or continue to mod, port match, and polish it. The body is still at the body shop and they are slowly working on it so there is no rush to complete the engine. Here are a few pics: : : : If the pistons look big, it's because they are 97mm. 10mm over stock. The crank is stroked by 6.25mm and the total disp is 3957cc. The problem that we are running into now is finding a headgasket. A copper gasket could easily be made but the since the cylinder walls and water jackets are so close, the copper may not hold up on the thin strip above the cyl wall. I am thinking of using a 92mm Greddy gasket that has a stainless steel ring around the bores. The ring would hang 2.5mm into the chamber. We just are not too sure how well it would seal and if the ring would retain heat and cause detonation. If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears and I appreciate any help / advice you can give. Thanks.
